The variable that greatly adds to the uniqueness of our biochemical individuality is blood type. Blood type is an individual’s genetic blueprint that determines his/her biochemistry and susceptibility to disease and environmental conditions, and also dictates diet and lifestyle choices. Not only are we different because of our blood type, but also it directly affects our health and longevity. "Your blood type is the key that unlocks the door to the mysteries of health, disease, longevity, physical vitality, and emotional strength. Your blood type determines your susceptibility to illnesses, which foods you should eat, and how you should exercise," according to Dr. Peter J. D’Adamo in his landmark book, Eat Right for Your Type.

All people are divided by their blood qualities into four types: O, A, B, and AB.

While biochemical reactions of the blood with food are very evident, a case where a person seemingly breaks the eating rules set by Dr. D’Adamo and nevertheless stays in good health acheving already a ripe old age is described in the book. You will also find there the continuum scale showing in graphical form cases of centenarians, food charts for different blood types, and a discussion on nutrition and longevity connection.
