Another organizing principle for determining a person's constitutional type is the Five Elements Theory. This theory, used together with the Yin-Yang diagnosis, enables one to obtain important supplementary information about an individual. According to Chinese Traditional Medicine, the five basic elements that our bodies are composed of are fire, earth, metal, water, and wood. According to this concept, everything in the world and the human body contains these five elements. The five elements or properties are interdependent and can promote or restrain one another. Each element influences our physical tendencies and personality type.
